SOCIAL - As social media engagement on Facebook rises, response rates from brands are slipping. Brands are struggling to get their messages in front of users thanks to a decline in organic reach of Page posts, but are they responding to their customers when they actually need something? The stats suggest that they’re not doing it enough. Perhaps this should be a bigger area of focus for brands. Earlier this year, eMarketer compiled some data from Sprout Social, reporting that social media response rates and times were dipping as user engagement “exploded”. SOCIAL - Despite a host of positive stats, Google+ has just not taken its rightful place alongside the market leaders particularly Facebook – but why? The simple answer is that G+ is not particularly “social” and while I am a great advocate of the platform and try to promote its use to my clients and Inner sanctum members it is a difficult beast to handle and it is my finding that while most brands, businesses and entrepreneurs have a Google+ profile and business page they don’t do so for its networking or engagement qualities but purely as an SEO tool – in fact I am also probably guilty of this mind-set as well. Having said this there is simply no way in my view that Google will abandon its + platform, predominantly because of the massive integration with its key apps like Gmail, Blogger, Local & Maps, but most importantly its search results, but is that enough for Google to keep pouring money and attention into its controversial social platform?
On a positive note, as I said there are a host of positive statistics not least over 1 billion registered users, 800k new sign-ups and over 1.2 million page views every month with over 70% of all businesses having a profile and the +1 button is clicked a massive 5 billion times a day – any platform owner would be absolutely ecstatic with metrics like that and Google Plus’s strongest asset is the way it has unified the suite of Google products, and that’s no small feat.
